Coffee Talk: Being a Mentor

Dan Deschamps General Motors Senior Manager will be presenting on what it takes to be a good mentor and why it is crucial in industry.

Main Presentation: Bennu Here We Come!

On September 8, an Atlas 5 rocket left Cape Canaveral carrying the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft towards asteroid Bennu. When it returns to the Earth in 2023, it will contain the largest sample of extraterrestrial material returned to the Earth since the end of the manned missions to the moon over 40 years ago.

This UA-led mission will mark many new milestones for US space exploration. Come listen to the story of how and why OSIRIS-REx was conceived and built, and how it has pioneered new technologies that may help keep Earth safe against hazardous asteroids. The latest news on the progress of the mission will be presented.

In 2012, Edward Beshore was appointed Deputy Principal Investigator of the University of Arizona's OSIRIS-REx asteroid sample return mission until his retirement after launch in September of 2016. From 2002 to 2012, Ed was a Senior Staff Scientist and Principal Investigator of the UA Lunar and Planetary Laboratory's Catalina Sky Survey, one of NASA's most productive programs to search for hazardous asteroids. Beshore has also been a senior software engineer for both the Boeing and Hewlett-Packard companies, and was a managing partner in PointSource Communications, a technical marketing company.
